History

Nicholas Ingerson is an Adelaide Architect with a business history of 46 years. Nick established Nicholas Ingerson Architect in Adelaide in 1969. He immediately endeavoured to build his own studio focussing on New Homes and Residential Alterations and Additions before moving to Vienna in 1971 where he worked in the Viennese office of Atelier Shultmeyer Kroj, prior to establishing his own studio which continued until his return to Adelaide in 1976.

Branch offices were set up in Alice Springs and Darwin to develop sustainable housing applicable to arid and tropical regions. Low energy designs were developed for Ranger Housing for the Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife Service. These prefabricated, totally self-sufficient, low energy demand houses were constructed in remote regions throughout the central arid and top end tropical regions of the Northern Territory. The systems for these houses form the basis of current environmentally sustainable designs.

Returning to Adelaide in 1986, the practice focused on seafront housing, concentrating on maritime resistant methods, materials and designs specific to these locations. Relocation of the office to the hills saw the inclusion of sloping sites and bushfire controls as significant design influences.

Low Energy Housing Specialists in Adelaide

Low energy housing designs were developed for Ranger housing for the Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife Service. These prefabricated, totally self-sufficient, low energy demand houses were constructed in remote regions throughout the central arid and top end tropical regions of the Northern Territory. The passive systems for these houses form the basis of his current environmentally sustainable designs. Numerous houses throughout the Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu, and metropolitan area have been designed utilising these cost saving, comfort inducing principles.

Philosophy

Our design philosophy focuses on providing Comfort and Health, a glove for your needs and lifestyle, incorporating passive built elements to provide continuous comfort and amenity. The joint preparation of the Brief, during which the interpretation of your ideas and vision, and respect of your ideas and dreams, establishes the platform upon which a successful design can be created. "I won't be living in your house - you will."

Design criteria:

  • The provision of passive energy systems creating low cost health and comfort
  • Natural heating and cooling
  • Natural light throughout all areas
  • Rainwater collection and reuse.
  • Harnessing natural ventilation and creation of induced systems.

With installation of solar panels, many of our completed projects achieve an energy cost balance of a credit in favour of the home owner.

We aim to ensure your 'green home' with our green philosophy. Our goal is a home that blends indoor and outdoor living and allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds. We want to build a carbon neutral house where you can relax all year round, a home that keeps you cool in summer, warm in winter and everything you want in between.
